ENGINEERING VERIFICATION GUIDE

UL VW-1 Fiberglass Sleeving Guide

VW-1 is a flame-test classification, not a generic product description. Verify the exact construction, size, coating system, test method and approval scope, then review it with the temperature, electrical and end-use requirements of the assembly.

WHAT VW-1 DOES AND DOES NOT CONFIRM

Keep flame performance separate from other selection criteria

Flame-test classification

Use the applicable approval record and test method to verify whether the requested product construction and range are covered.

Thermal performance

Review continuous temperature, peak exposure, aging conditions and the coating system independently of any flame-test request.

Electrical performance

Define voltage, dielectric test, wall build and the final insulation system. A VW-1 request alone does not establish electrical suitability.

DOCUMENT CONTROL

Verify the exact product, not a general material name

Fiberglass braid, coating family, wall build, nominal inner diameter, color and manufacturing configuration can affect the documentation that applies to a supplied sleeving. Match the customer requirement to the requested production construction and confirm the current supporting file before quoting an approval claim.

For an end product, approval of a sleeving material does not replace the evaluation required for the complete assembly. Keep the product record, test conditions and installation route available for project review.

RFQ AND VERIFICATION CHECKLIST

Information to confirm before sample or production approval

01Target product construction and coating
02Inner diameter, wall build and tolerance
03Required flame-test classification and standard
04Current file or documentation requirement
05Continuous and peak temperature
06Operating voltage and dielectric test need
07Assembly, bend, vibration and exposure conditions
08Color, cut length, sample quantity and annual demand

Confirm certification scope and final end-use compliance with the applicable standard and current project documentation. Do not rely on a generic material description alone.
